He was the son of the late Charles B. and MaryAnne (Torok) McAuley. A Scituate high school graduate, he obtained bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice and English literature. He served for over 30 years as a police officer in the towns of Scituate and Weymouth. In retirement, Colin pursued a love of antiques, which attracted many visitors to his favorite place on earth: the barn on his property, affectionately known as Bent Nail Farm Antiques. He was an advocate for many causes and a frequent volunteer at South Shore Hospital. He was a devoted father, grandfather, stepfather, and husband, an avid reader, a lover of old cars, a fixture in his neighborhood of Marshfield Hills, and a widely beloved friend.
He was predeceased by his beloved late wife Carolyn (McDonald) McAuley. He is survived by his son C. Brendan McAuley and wife Cara (Belmosto) McAuley and by his daughter Casey Beth Lahti and husband Steven Lahti.
Grandfather of Declan M. Dunn, Cooper B. McAuley, J. Lily McAuley, Cole E. Lahti, C. “Beau” McAuley, and Blake C. Lahti.
Brother of Cynthia B. McAuley (deceased).
Also survived by his stepchildren, Jill Ogden, Liam Quilty-Dunn, Jake Quilty-Dunn, and their families.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 from 1-4 PM at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate, MA 02066. Relative and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Following the visitation, the family cordially invites you to join them for light fare and fond remembrances at Widow's Walk on the Driftway in Scituate from 4-6 PM.
