Scarsdale – Dr. Mary Sheehy, a longtime resident of Scarsdale, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital, New York.Mary was born in Manhattan on August 27, 1934. She was the loving daughter of the late Richard and Anna Sheehy. Mary was an independent and accomplished person. She was proud of her Irish heritage and was named Irish Woman of the Year in 1990 by The Emerald Society of New York. Mary was a teacher, Evaluator, Administrator, and Chairperson for the Committee of Special Education for District 11 in New York City. She received her undergraduate and doctorate from Fordham University and her Masters of Education from Columbia. Mary was a professional and an innovator in the field of Education. She was close to her colleagues and made lasting friendships while working on her doctorate.
Mary loved to travel. She visited places such as China, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and the Caribbean. She loved dining out and attending social events with her friends. She adored shopping and was a master at couponing. Mary was a self made individual who was successful, bright, and ambitious. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 21, 2012 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 8 Strathmore Road, Scarsdale, New York. Burial will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Ave., Valhalla, NY. There will be no visitation at the funeral home upon Mary’s request. A luncheon will be provided at Casa Rina Restaurant, 886 Commerce Street, Thornwood, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Mary’s memory to Saint Cabrini Nursing Home of Westchester 115 Broadway, Dobbs Ferry, NY 10522.
