Maria Rotondo Was born on November 17, 1927 in Civita, Calabria, Italia. She was raised there by her parents, Antonio and Theresa Lalaina. Then they brought her to United States during her teen years.
She passed from this temporary life to an eternal one on January 3, 2020.
She is survived by her two devoted sons, Dean J. Rotondo, MD and Albert M. Rotondo and their respective soulmates, Anna Maria Laughlin, MD and M. Clare Rotondo, seven loving grandchildren: Shawn, Holly, Antonio, Angelica, Dean John II, Danielle and Allison and six great-grandchildren: Hazel, Harmony, Charluccio, Antonio, Hendrix, and Alessandro. She is also survived by her sister, Rose Casella.
The family initially lived in Harlem, NYC and then relocated to The Bronx, NYC where she attended and graduated from Evander Childs High School. She devoted her life to her husband, Antonio Rotondo, and her two sons. She meticulously maintained the family home in The Bronx and also helped run the family deli business. She later worked in various retail settings helping her customers develop a fashion sense.
After her husband, Antonio, passed away at a very early age of 53, she married a childhood friend, Joe Castellano, himself a widower also. They relocated to his home in Scarsdale, NY where she resided for 20 years. They very much enjoyed an active life together with frequent travels and vacations and an ongoing focus on family.
Her lifestyle revolved around homemaking, cooking incredible Italian specialties, working, and attending Mass in the Roman Catholic Church.
She was a spirited youthful woman who loved social interaction, traveling and finding humor in her daily routine. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends and anyone who had the good fortune of meeting her.
