Maria Giulia Emma Giuseppina Elvira Bacchelli DiSalvo was born in 1935 in Tripoli, Libya. She spent most of her early years in Mogadiscio, Somalia with her parents and four siblings. She continued her education in Bologna, Italy where she eventually met her beloved husband, Biagio DiSalvo, MD. They crossed the Atlantic and took up residence in New York, where they raised their two sons, Giulio and Dominic. She became a professor of Italian and Spanish and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Biagio, Victoria, Giulia, and Luca, who brought her much joy in her later life.
