Larry was born on November 22, 1927 in the Bronx to the late Lawrence B. and Viola (Fullam) Holten. He graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Scarsdale, New York in 1941 and Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx in 1945. Larry then served in the United States Navy and was a proud Veteran.
He married the love of his life, Anna Pezzella, on June 10, 1951 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and recently celebrated 66 beautiful years of marriage.
He began his public service career with the Eastchester Police Department for two years and was subsequently appointed to the Eastchester Fire Department on June 16, 1952, retiring on November 27, 1992 after 40 years of dedicated service. Always proud to wear EFD Badge 41, he worked for many years at the North End Firehouse driving Hook & Ladder Truck 17. In his retirement, he worked many years as an election inspector in the Town of Eastchester.
Larry had numerous interests, including playing the New York Lottery scratch-offs, reading The Journal News and Daily News from beginning to end every day. He was an avid reader of books and especially loved crossword puzzles. He enjoyed eating dinner at several area restaurants and loved watching his favorite TV show Blue Bloods along with his NY Mets. His greatest enjoyment though was spending time with his family, especially his great-grandson Andrew.
Larry was a devout Catholic and was a life-long parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church where, for many years, he was the head usher at the 5:30 p.m. Saturday mass.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife Anna. His cherished children, daughter Susan Holten of Eastchester, New York, daughter Barbara and son-in-law Trip Gagnon of Wilton, New York and daughter-in-law Beth Holten (beloved son Lawrence B. Holten, Jr. predeceased on July 2, 2000) of Eastchester, New York.
He was the greatest Popie to his granddaughter Kelly and her husband John Nargi of New Rochelle, New York, granddaughter Courtney Gagnon of Wilton, New York, grandson Lawrence B. (L.B.) Holten, III of Brooklyn, New York and the light of his life, his great-grandson Andrew Lawrence Nargi of New Rochelle, New York. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, including his fellow brothers, both active and retired, of the Eastchester Fire Department.
Besides his parents and son, Larry was predeceased by his sisters Patricia Schneider, Viola Gallagher & Elizabeth Holten.
To know Larry was to love Larry. He was the most friendly person one could hope to meet. The positive and uplifting impact he provided to all those he met cannot be measured.
