Antonina Carollo

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Antonina Carollo of Eastchester NY who passed away on September 29, 2023 at the age of 82 in New York City. She was born on December 8th,1940 in Palermo, Sicily on the holy day of the Immaculate Conception; she died on September 29th, 2023 at 10:14pm in the MSK hospital in NYC on the Saints day of St. Michael the Archangel.

She was a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, caregiver and a friend to all whom she encountered. She passed away from a 2 ½ year battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. On the frontline of her battle, her unit was led by her children: son-Salvatore & Carmela Carollo of Franklin Lakes, NJ and daughter-Gina M Carollo & Franco Franciamore of Eastchester, NY; grandchildren, Claudia Carollo, Antonio Carollo, Elizabeth Franciamore and Loreto Franciamore; leukemia specialists, Dr. Raajit Rampal & Linda Ouyang, NP, and most of the caregivers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in NYC. She fought hard and long until the last day of her life, always stating: “I'm ok.”

Her home health attendant Sonia, who was a big part of her daily life and care, summed up her character perfectly in Italian : "tua madre per tutti voi, ha fatto di più e di tutto" In translation, “she has always gone above and beyond for the love of her family and friends!”

She was predeceased by her husband Anthony Carollo (2001); her parents, Giacomo Carollo & Pietra of Palermo, Sicily, and her brothers, Stefano Carollo of Palermo, Sicily; Giuseppe Carollo(Dora) of Whitestone, Queens; Salvatore Carollo(Kathleen) of Bayside, Queens and finally, her fur baby Sofia, who recently passed away in August 2023. She is survived by her children, her grandchildren, her sisters, Anna Carollo Pellerito of Palermo, Sicily and Vincenzina Carollo Mansueto of West Palm Beach Florida; and her 2 best friends Concetta D’Ancona and Ruthy Peloso of the Bronx.
