On April 10th, 2023, the Lord called the soul of His servant Jacobus William Fischer unto Himself for Eternal Life.
Jacobus was born on March 13, 1938 in Capetown, South Africa, the son of the late Jacobus William Fischer Senior and the former Rosie Erynstein. He was received into Christ's Kingdom through the sacrament of Holy Baptism in St. Mark's Anglican Church and later confirmed in Good Shepherd Anglican Church in Kensington.
As a member of a family of 7 brothers and 4 sisters, he grew up in District 6, where he attended Trafalgar High School. During this time, he was actively involved in a variety of sports, including running, gymnastics, swimming, mountaineering, wrestling, and soccer and he ran his own weight-lifting and bodybuilding club. Following high school graduation, Jacobus did clerical work for 6 years. During this time period, he was united in marriage to Wilhelmina Susan Matthee, a marriage which lasted 40 years and produced 2 children, Terence and Gail.
Jacobus attended Hewat Training College for 3 years, during which time he acquired a teaching certificate and a specialist certificate in physical education. He taught at Prunus Primary School for 2 years and then immigrated to Toronto where he taught at Brookbanks Public School for 32 years. While teaching, he attended the University of Toronto for his B.A. and B.Ed. degrees and Glendon College for a specialist certificate in French.
His interests were many and varied and included fund-raising for the Forum Club to support school feeding schemes in South Africa and to assist incarcerated political prisoners, gardening, reading, cooking, travelling, diving, dancing, tutoring, and construction work.
To cherish his memory and mourn his loss, he leaves his partner Carole, son Terence, 6 grandsons, and his great-grandchildren and other family members in South Africa. Jacobus was predeceased by both his father and mother and his daughter Gail.

After cremation, a Memorial Visitation will be held for Jacobus on Saturday, April 29th at 2:00PM with a Memorial Service to follow at 3:00PM with light refreshments available at Paul O'Connor Funeral Home (1939 Lawrence Ave. E., Toronto, ON M1R 2Y8).
