Thomas “Tom” Edmond Long, Sr., 97, of Savannah, died Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Azalealand Convalescent Center under the care of Hospice Savannah. He was born in Pleasureville, Kentucky, and he was a Charter Member of the former Robert McIntire United Methodist Church, and a member of Grace United Methodist Church since 1958. He had previously worked from 1934 to 1948 at Mexican Petroleum Company and 1948 to 1955 for Intel Oil Company and from 1955 to 1979 at American Cyanamid Company. He joined Zerubbabel Lodge # 15, in March 1949, and served as Worshipful Master in 1957. He was a Charter Member of Coastal Daylight Lodge No. 750, F & A.M’s. He was Past High Priest of Georgia Chapter No. 3, RAM; Past Illustrious Master of Georgia Council No. 2, R&SM; Past Commander of Palestine Commandery No. 7, KT; Member of Georgia Priory No. 39, KYCH; 32* KCCH Member of Valley of Savannah, AASR; Past Puissant Sovereign of Oglethorpe Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine, and Past President of Alee Temple’s Ritualistic Divan. He is survived by his wife, Effie Cone Long, of Savannah, Ga; 3 sons, Rev. Thomas E. Long, Jr., (Anne) of St. Augustine, Fla; Lawrence A. “Larry” Long, (JoAnn) of Statesboro, Ga; and Victor M. Long (Brenda) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., 2 daughters, Peggy Long Anderson (Robert) of Savannah, Ga; and Beryl Long Johnson (Ezra) of Stapleton, Alabama; 19 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Fairhaven Funeral Home – Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Ga 31406. Graveside Services: 2 p.m.Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park, with Rev. Gary Cubbedge, pastor of First Christian Church, officiating.
