Michael Wade Mayes, 52, of Savannah, died Saturday, May 18, 2013 in West Palm Beach, Fla. He was born in Savannah, Ga., and was a graduate of Benedictine Military School Class of 1978, and Armstrong State University where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, and the University of New York, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and Psychology. Michael received the Gold Medal in Judo, in the Junior Olympics, that were held in the summer of 1977, at the University of Nebraska, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Michael was a veteran having served six years in the U.S. Navy. He had been a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church since he was 2 years old, and he served as a Licensed Lay Minister. Michael served as a Computer Technician for S I A C, at the Georgia Ports Authority. Michael loved people. He is survived by his parents, Benjamin Franklin Mayes and Laura Dees Mayes of Savannah, Ga; brother & sister in law, Edward Thomas Mayes and Ana A. Mayes of Spartanburg, S.C., 2 nephews, Daniel and Steven Mayes, and his niece, Victoria Mayes. Visitation: 3 - 4 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1802 Abercorn St., Savannah, Ga 31404. Requiem Mass: 4 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, with Father William Willoughby, III, Father James N. Parker, and Father George B. Salley, officiating.
