Carole Frances Ingram died Monday, January 27 in Savannah after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Savannah, Georgia on July 10, 1932 to Dorothy Leigh Broughton Ingram and Robert Newton Ingram. Graduated from Savannah High in 1950 and from Henry Grady Hospital School of Nursing in Atlanta in 1953. She was especially proud to be a “Grady Nurse”. The old saying was that a Grady Nurse could make a hospital in a cornfield. She lived a full and exciting life as an R.N. and as a Stewardess
For Southern Airlines – traveling all over the world. She joined the GA ANG and attained the rank of Major during her career as Flight Nurse flying with the wounded back from Viet Nam. Nursing remained her primary vocation as she also worked with the Red Cross in their blood donor program. She retired from devoted duties as head of the I.C.U. Burn Unit at Brooke Army Hospital in San Antonio, TX. While at Brooke, she cared for the burned and injured sailors from the USS Nimitz. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy I. Brannen (Robert F. Jr.), her niece, Carole B. Wilson (John M. III) and two great nieces, Caroline A. Wilson and Cathlin A. Wilson.
A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
