1926-2024
Our loving father, Bill, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully on September 26, 2024. Dad will be greatly missed by his children; Douglas (Pam), Patricia (Blair), Debra (Bevin), his four grandchildren; Kyle (Tara), Zachary, Connor (Alix), Laurel (Ethan), great granddaughter Charli, sister-in-law Fyola, brother-in-law Bill, and many nieces and nephews. Bill was born in Plato, Saskatchewan on December 7, 1926 and lived on the farm with his twin brother Hugh, and sisters Mae and Peggy. The family moved to Saskatoon in the late 30’s. Dad enjoyed a memorable career at Federated Co-op for 21 years and in 1962 embarked on his career as a Manufacturer’s Agent. Mom and Dad first met at the skating oval in Regina and were married on June 27, 1953. At the time of mom’s passing they had been partners in life for 66 years. They raised their family in Saskatoon. Together they enjoyed spending time at Regina Beach with ‘the Gang’, bowling, travelling, and winters in Yuma, Arizona. The family has warm memories of summers in Waskesui, long trips in the station wagon, Rider games at Taylor Field, holidays in Hawaii, and family gatherings.
Dad also loved curling, fishing and golf. He was a member of the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club for 50 years. Even into his 90’s, he enjoyed going to the driving range (yes… his drives were as straight as they have always been). He also enjoyed outings to the casino, and walks by the river.
It is the events on the day of his passing that bring great comfort, in that he was his ‘regular’ amazing self and that the day was like every other day. Morning coffee and a 3 hour visit with Pat, followed by his daily walk along the river across his favourite bridge, petting passing canine friends, admiring the geese & leaves turning their Fall colours on a sunny, warm, 29 degree day. Deb arrived after work for the regular dose of Blue Jays and supper together. At the end of the 3rd inning Dad suggested that they take a look at Mom’s garden where he had many potato plants to be attended to. It was there, beside our favourite childhood climbing tree that he passed. It truly was a day that Dad would have hoped for, so that his story could be shared this way…his way. A private celebration of his life will take place at a later date. Until then…
An Old Irish Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again, may God hold
You in the palm of His hand.
