June 25, 1943 to December 7, 2024
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Victor Klymyshyn at the age of 81, after a brief battle with cancer.
Victor was born in Saskatoon, SK. on June 25, 1943 and lived in Meacham SK. for the first 18 years of his life. After graduating from high school in 1961, he attended the University of Saskatchewan where he convocated with Bachelor’s degrees in Arts & Science and Education, and a Masters degree in Educational Administration. While at university, he stayed at Mohyla Institute where he met Maryanne Krepakevich. They were married on October 22, 1966, in Yorkton, SK. Victor is survived by his wife Maryanne, two sons David (Sherry) of Saskatoon and Douglas (Allison) of Ottawa, ON, grandchildren Katie, Jolena, and Spencer Klymyshyn, sister Jean (Jim) Meenaghan of Phoenix Az., and twelve nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Mathew and Lena (nee Kindrachuk), sister Ruth Junge, brother-in-law Gary Junge, and grandson Mackenzie Klymyshyn.
As a young man, Victor enjoyed golfing, curling, and skiing, but fishing remained a favourite pastime throughout his life. He liked to cook and loved to listen to classical music. A private pilot and affiliate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, he was also a member of the Swift Current Curling Club, and the Elmwood Golf Club. Vic always enjoyed life and the good times spent with family and friends, particularly at their Beaver Flat cottage on Lake Diefenbaker, especially at “Grandpa Camp”.
Vic’s high school teaching career began in 1966 in Balcarres SK. He later taught in Hanley SK., and Vanguard SK., where he also acted as principal K-12. The last twenty years were spent at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School where he taught Physics, Mathematics, Science, and Computer Science, and acted as Science Department Head for several years. Always involved with kids, he coached minor hockey and baseball in the community, football and soccer at the high school level, and served as staff advisor to several student councils. In 1981, Victor left teaching for three years to start Southwest Computer Centre, a business that was later sold to his partner. After over 30 years, he retired from teaching in January 1999.
Vic and Maryanne moved back to Saskatoon in January 2000 and returned to the Ukrainian Orthodox Parish of All Saints. Upon returning, he joined the Brotherhood of Saints Boris and Hlib, serving as treasurer of that organization for several years. He was named Brother of the Year in 2013.
