Sheila Irene Campbell passed away peacefully in Saskatoon on January 12, 2024. Sheila was the only child of Saskatchewan farmers Roy and Florence McNeil. She was predeceased by her husband Morris W. Campbell and is survived by her children, Margaret (Walter) Kuzyk, Neil (Brenda) Campbell, Irene Campbell (Gerry Thomas), Brenda (Bill) Sisson, Donna Phillips (Murray Beckley), 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Sheenagh Campbell, nieces and nephews.
Mom was a true Saskatchewan Lady. She was born in Alameda in southeast Saskatchewan and spent her early life on the farm. After high school (and getting to know her special high school principal, Morris) she moved to Regina and completed the Laboratory Tech program at Regina College. She married Morris on July 24, 1954. Sheila’s only moves outside of Saskatchewan occurred to Edmonton, Alberta for Morris to complete his Masters in Education and to Dauphin, Manitoba for Morris to oversee the building of a regional secondary school. Soon they returned home to Regina and Sheila lived there until her mid-eighties when she moved to Saskatoon to be nearer to two of her daughters.
Sheila was a selfless master at running a family and a household and made everything appear easy. Her early years as a child of the depression made her practical, fearless of challenges and appreciative of blessings that life brought. She inspired her children to enjoy hard work and be strong and caring individuals who would be successful in their own lives.
Sheila and Morris and their children spent many years dedicating their service and volunteer time to the United Church. They enjoyed travelling to parks and lakes and camping throughout Saskatchewan when the family was young and trailered to other provinces as the years went by. After a well planned early retirement, Sheila and Morris had many happy years of gardening, curling, ballroom dance, bridge, cruising, world travel, and celebrating time with their growing family. After Dad passed, Mom continued her travel into her eighties, bringing smiles to family and friends.
Sheila was talented in music and performance arts, and shared her talents to bring joy to others. She was a dedicated member of a ladies’ singing group, “The Singing Grannies,” for many years, entertaining at retirement and care homes.
Throughout her lifetime Mom had a big impact on others. Her children and grandchildren all pursue life influenced by the way she lived hers. She was clear and direct with her beliefs, thoughts and opinions. She was fun, outgoing, smart, and caring. She was loved by all those she met and will be missed by recent and old friends.
We are fortunate to have had such an extraordinary mother, supporter and friend. We will miss her dearly. At Mom’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. A memorial for family will be held next summer. Donations made in Sheila’s honour to The Salvation Army Regina would be appreciated.
