Roy Jeffrey Schow

Roy Jeffrey Schow was born August 20, 1921 to Hans and Augusta Schow. Roy was born north of Pelly, SK, the youngest of 6 children. He attended Maybridge School where he claimed he was often disciplined for only being fluent in Norwegian. Roy told many stories, reminiscing about his school days and his buddies, telling tales about ball games, dances, drinking and girls. He loved to laugh. Roy served in World War II. He trained throughout Western Canada and his most memorable experience was when his battalion was sent to the Aleutians Islands only to find the enemy had already left and the 'Kiska Kids' went home safe and sound. When Roy returned to the family farm, his brother Earl informed him that there was an abundance of beautiful women over at the Hubic farm. Roy married Adeline Hubic in June 1949. Roy and Adeline lived in the same yard as Roy's parents for many years and that is where Dennis, Dale, Audrey and Shelley were raised. Roy spent many hours outside; he loved 'tinkering' in his shop. He was a great mechanic, farmer, carpenter and inventor. Roy and Adeline went to the Maloneck United Church every Sunday and one Sunday arrived via Honda motorcycle and homemade sidecar for Adeline to ride in. Roy very seldom went anywhere without his side kick, Adeline. Roy and Adeline reluctantly moved to Pelly in 2008 where they lived until moving to Long Term Care in Saskatoon in 2012. Roy has resided in the Veterans Village until his passing on January 4, 2015. Roy will be deeply missed by family and friends. He will be remembered by his quiet caring way, sense of humor and his singing. Roy is survived by his eldest sister, Francis Watland; and his sister -in-laws, Olga Schow and Jennie Schow; his daughters, Audrey (Owen) Johnson and Shelley (Terry) Severson; and daughter-in-law, Karen Schow. Roy has 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Roy was predeceased by his faithful and loving wife, Adeline and his two sons, Dennis and Dale; his parents and brothers, Jennings, Earl and Norman; his sister, Blanche Ford; and many brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.
