Mary Larson

June 17, 1932 - July 29, 2019

It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Mary Larson (nee Nycholat) on Monday, July 29, 2019. She is survived by her children:  son Cal (Marj) Larson, and daughters Val (Maurice) Bonnet and Susan (Barry) Miazga; grandchildren: Tara Larson (Wayne Thompson), Andrea (Sam) Petlikau, Celeste (Willy) Korol, Brennan Bonnet, Danielle (Cole) Trayhorne, Colin Miazga, Chris Miazga and Kyle Miazga; great-grandchildren: Taylor Korol (Rory McIntyre), Jordan Korol; Brooklyn, Colton and Ryan Thompson; Gavin, Connor and Hunter Petlikau; Monica Trayhorne; great-great-grandchildren: Kolby and Rowan Korol; brothers and sister-in-law Peter (Jean) Nycholat and Joe Nycholat; sisters Pauline Nycholat, Kate Lysyshyn, Margaret Downey and Sophie South; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband Everett on July 2, 2019; parents Joseph and Mary Nycholat (nee Liss); brother and sister-in-law Mike and Anne Nycholat; brothers-in-law Peter Lysyshyn, Pat Downey and Bob South; parents-in-law Selmer and Olga Larson; brothers and sisters-in-laws Gordon (Phyllis) Larson and Marvin (Dorothy) Larson. Mary was born and raised on the family farm near Fosston, Saskatchewan. She met her husband Everett Larson at a dance he was playing at the hall in Fosston. On October 23, 1952 she married Everett in a double wedding ceremony with her brother Mike Nycholat and sister-in-law Anne Kohut. Soon after, Mary and Everett moved to Yorkton where he began his music teaching career and then in 1956 they settled in Saskatoon. Mary was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and aunt who always put the needs of her family and friends before her own. She loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally and was always there for them when they needed her for support and encouragement. She was the daycare provider for all her grandchildren while they were growing up, seeing them to and from school, making sure they were well fed, completed homework assignments and didn't need for anything. Mary also had a great love for her garden and was happiest shopping the greenhouses looking for flowers. She was an incredible cook who made the best Easter buns, borscht and cabbage rolls. Many of the music students and parents who would come for lessons would stop in to visit her, catch up on news and events and share in the excitement of all their new successes. She treasured the relationships of her music family and considered them as part of her own. She lived to make all our lives better and took great pride and ownership in everyone's accomplishments. On the afternoon of July 29, 2019 Mary became suddenly ill, suffered a heart attack and collapsed while Cal, Val and Susan were with her. In disbelief, once again we were saying goodbye to another amazing parent after just four weeks of losing our dad. We would like to extend our heartfelt thank you to the incredible compassion and efforts of the paramedics and emergency response personnel, Dr. Schanna Vandekamp, Dr. Wardell and Dr. J. S. DeVilliers, and the numerous nurses, technicians and support staff at RUH. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2019 at St. Francis Xavier Parish (222 Willow St.) in Saskatoon with Fr. Hoang and Monseigneur Ray Senger as celebrants. A Celebration of Mary and Everett’s Lives will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Lakeview Church (15 RR5 #510) in Saskatoon with Pastor Marilyn Fowlie-Neufeld and Fr. Hoang officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the RUH Foundation (103 Hospital Dr, Saskatoon, SK S7N 0W8).
