It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lydia Lacroix announce her passing on Saturday July 6, 2024, at the age of 95. Lydia was born in Antwerp, Belgium on June 13, 1929. She and her family immigrated to Canada in 1948, following the end of WWII and settled in Saskatoon, where she met her husband Jean (John) and spent the rest of her life.
Speaking little to no English, Lydia completed her grade 12 at City Park Collegiate. She later met her husband, Jean, while they were both working at a French radio station in Saskatoon (CFNS), and so began their love story. Lydia and Jean were married in June 1956 and welcomed their first daughter, Nadia, a year later. Patrick followed and finally Danielle. Lydia was a stay-at-home mom for most of her married life until she decided to go back to work once her children were grown. She worked in the dietary department at RUH until her retirement at 65.
Lydia is predeceased by her parents, Émile and Mary Dezeure, husband, Jean, son, Patrick, sisters, Susan Howlett and Laurette Gautier. She is survived by her sister Diane Demong, daughters, Nadia (John) Neutelings and Danielle (Tim) Tkachuk, grandchildren, Heather (Dan) McGregor, Bryan Tkachuk and Courtney (Philip) Mah, as well as 4 great grandchildren: Austin, Emily, Caitlin and Sarah McGregor.
Lydia loved to travel and accumulated many beautiful memories visiting Canada coast to coast, the UK, Hawaii, and most recently and frequently, her happy place on Vancouver Island. Experiencing the beauty of nature always revitalized her. Lydia cherished her private time but also valued her special relationships. If Lydia considered you her friend, you were lucky indeed. She never failed to show her love for friends and family in any number of thoughtful and loving ways. You also always knew exactly where you stood with Lydia, as she would call it the way she saw it. This was part of her charm till the day she passed.
The family would like to thank the dedicated caregivers at Circle Drive Special Care Home for their kindness, compassion and loving care. At Lydia’s request there will be no formal funeral service.
