June 20, 1949 ~ June 2, 2017
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dave Hiltz on June 2, 2017 at the age of 67. Dave was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on June 20, 1949. His family moved to Saskatoon in 1954. Dave attended St Goretti and St Gerard elementary schools and St Paul’s High School. Growing up in a large family, Dave took his responsibility as a brother seriously, and looked out for his siblings, especially his sisters. He started working at a young age (as all were expected to do) and helped financially, paying room and board while living at home. His first job, and one of his most memorable, was working at the Arena rink helping his older brother Kibbie set up the rings for the wrestling matches while still going to elementary school. Every pay day they would head to Toons Kitchen. He started his career with Dairy Producers Co-Op in 1968 and retired from Saputo Foods 41 years later in 2009. After they retired, He and Sharon began to live their dream of spending summers at their cabin at Meeting Lake and winters at their park model trailer in Mesa Arizona. Dave took up playing pickleball and tennis in Mesa and was there faithfully every day unless the rain prevented him from playing. Over the years as he got better at the games he never forgot about the new guy. He always took the time to play a game or two with the beginners to help them along. He was known by everyone as “Happy Dave”. In the summer they planted a big garden, and Dave worked tirelessly hauling rocks in his wheelbarrow or the back of the truck to make flower beds and walkways. He always looked forward to the weekends when the guys would come out so he could see what project he could help with, whether it was cutting grass, splitting wood, putting in the dock or helping to build something. Where ever he was you always saw him with a smile on his face. He will be missed by all who knew him. Dave is survived by his loving partner and best friend Sharon; his son Bryan (Vivian) and children Brayden and Bailey; daughter Bobbi (Jimi) and children, Brooklyn and Kenzie. Sharon’s son Jim (Michelle) and their children Edwin and Julianne. Siblings; Colleen (Clayton), Glenys (Gerry), Gail (Larry), Bob, John (Pat), Pat (Ray) and Dawn (Dave). Sister and brothers-in-law Malvina, Noreen (Arnie), Grace (Murray), Janet, Dale (Susan) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents Allan and Marie, brother Alfred (Kibitz), sisters Patricia and Carol. Special thanks to the Doctors and staff at RUH 6300 and St Paul’s Palliative Care and to all of the people that offered prayers and support through this most difficult time. As per Dave’s wishes there will be no funeral service. There will be a private gathering in celebration of his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care unit at St. Paul’s Hospital. Arrangements are in care of John Schachtel, Mourning Glory Funeral Home, (306) 978-5200.
