Sylvia was born in Chicago, IL to Anthony & Rose Kovar. She attended Lourdes & Kelly High Schools, where she was a member of the "Peppermints".
In January 1953 she married the love of her life, Fred. For the next 71 years they were very rarely apart. Sylvia enjoyed traveling with Fred to many different locations. Her knack for decorating kept her busy always redoing something in whatever home they lived in.
She was an avid Bingo and Mah Jongg player and also enjoyed tennis and golf.
Sylvia was always dressed to the nines whatever the occasion, and was always the "life of the party".
Later in life she enjoyed writing letters to the editor regarding country and politics.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony & Rose Kovar; a brother, Len Kovar; her inlaws, Harvey & Lill Meyer, and too many dogs to count.
She is survived by her husband, Fred and their dog, Gidget; her six children, Michelle (Russ) Johnson, Mark (Leah) Meyer, Michael (Tammy) Meyer, Martin (Jennifer) Meyer, Mary Jo (Jim) Wilson, Matthew (Jennifer) Meyer; her grandchildren, Nicole Olson, Katie (Adam) Carr, Mischa (Josh) Fiske, Jeremy Meyer, Mallory Meyer, Madeline Meyer, Anthony (Sarah) Meyer, James Meyer, Abigail Roznos, Hannah Roznos and Cecelia Meyer; great grandchildren, Gunner Clemmons, Calvin Fiske, Avia Fiske and Harley Roznos; a sister, Joyce (Ed) Mihalik, and a brother, Eugene (Jenny) Kovar, along with nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Sylvia will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Ave, Sarasota, FL 34232. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park. Entombment will follow at Palms Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the Humane Society of Lakewood Ranch in Sylvia's memory.
