Lucy lived in Rockville Centre, New York for 45 years where she raised her family of six children. She is survived by four of her children: son Stephen, wife Jeanne; daughter Barbara, husband Richard; daughter Camille Martinez-Couperus, husband Frans; son Thomas Costello, wife Mary Beth.
Lucy also has seven grandchildren: Kristin, David, Kathryn, Jacquelyn, Riki Ann, Mary Kate, and Rosie; and five great grandchildren: Adrianna, Kayleigh, Logan, Harper and Aidan.
Lucy was pre-deceased by two of her sons: Neil and John Martinez; brother Mark and sisters Camille and Marie.
Lucy’s life journey was filled with many stepping stones to navigate, including as a cancer survivor. She managed each with her faith in God which gave her the courage and determination to overcome each stone with compassion, tenacity and perseverance.
Lucy moved to Sarasota, Florida in 1998 to begin a new chapter of her life. She was a member of Incarnation Church, where she was a member of the choir; the rosary society; bible study and became a Eucharistic Minister for the sick.
Lucy loved the arts and she volunteered for the opera; the Ringling Museum, the local theater and the Sarasota Italian Club.
In 2008 Lucy moved to the Bay Village Retire Community to begin the final chapter of her life. Here she thrived in making many new friends; became the spokesperson for the 7th floor (known as the heavenly 7) and was a fixture of the community. She volunteered at the gift shop; became an angel for the sick and joined the yoga group. She swam in the pool daily and joined the community Olympics program.
Lucy Martinez believed in giving back to the less fortunate and touched many souls. She will be remembered as a true force of love and compassion.
