Lorraine “Honey” Barry Dramis passed away peacefully on June 26, 2021, in Sarasota. Born on August 9, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY, she had three older sisters and an older brother: Vera, Audrey, Helen, and William. When she was 2 years old, Lorraine was sent to live with the Sweeney family in Poughkeepsie, NY, after the death of her mother. Lorraine considered the Sweeney family and their descendants as her own.
In her teens, Lorraine returned to live in Brooklyn with her siblings. She attended Kings County Nursing School and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1951. Lorraine was very proud of her career, spanning over 40 years, primarily at Kings Highway Hospital in Brooklyn and later Sarasota Memorial Hospital. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Health from St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn and served as an officer for the National Organization of Orthopedic Nurses. Following her retirement in 1992, she enjoyed traveling to different countries in Europe and enjoyed many cruises.
Lorraine is survived by three children: Laura, Louis Jr., and Michael; four granddaughters: Delina, Nicole, Natasha, and Savannah; two great grandsons: Keanius and Blake; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings; the father of her children, Louis Dramis Sr.; and her daughter, Lorraine Emily.
Memorial donations may be made to Boys Town of Central Florida or St. Jude’s Chil-dren’s Hospital, Memphis, TN. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 10, 2021 at Robert Toale & Sons Funeral Home, 170 Honore Ave., in Sarasota from 11 AM until the time of service at 1 PM. Internment will follow.
