James S. Porter Sr, 83, of Sarasota, Florida from the hometown of Southington, Connecticut passed away peacefully on July 7th due to Renal Cancer. Born in Bristol, Ct to the late Sterling "Tut" and Margaret (Skinner) Porter.
He is survived by his highschool sweetheart and wife of 63 years, Claudette (Robinson) Porter. Children, Barbara DiNello, Richard Porter wife Lorraine, and Doreen Dube. Was predeceased by his son, James Porter Jr and Lovable Brother, Terry.
James also leaves behind 3 brothers and their amazing spouses, Buddy and Lea Porter of Southington, David Porter of Southington, Ann Porter, wife of late Terry Porter of Isle La Motte, Vtand Tom and Connie Porter of Southington.
7 grandchildren: Sarah (DiNello) Allen, Michael DiNello, Emily (DiNello) Rich, Father James Porter III, Matthew Dube, Melissa Dube "Tenant" and Austin Porter. Great grandchildren: Weston Allen, Rosalie and Carter Rich.
James retired as captain of the Southington Police Department after 35 years of service, holding a bachelors degree in criminal justice and a masters in public administration. He was proud to be one of the founding fathers and first president of the Southington Valley Midget Football League, always viewed sports and exercise important for our youth. He also saw the value of traveling. He and Claudette took many trips, near and far and would return with interesting stories.
Jim's favorite pastime was golfing and a big part of that was HIS LOVE FOR HIS GOLF BUDDIES. An avid reader of nonfiction and exercised religiously at his local YMCA.
A church service will be held at St. Thomas in Southington officiated by grandson, Father James at a future date.
