James Russell Huff Jr.

Russ was born on July 18, 1944, in Sharon, Pennsylvania and passed away on December 4, 2024 in Sarasota, Florida, at the age of 80.

The beloved son of James Russell Huff Sr. and Evelyn Edith Huff. Russ moved to Sarasota, Florida, early in life, where he spent most of his years.

Russ proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964, stationed in Germany. His military service was a source of great pride, carrying on a tradition shared with his father.

A devoted father, Russ raised three children, Michelle Lynne Hernandez (Edward), James Russell Huff III (Brenda), and Daryel Albert Huff. He worked 18 years at American Beryllium as a machinist, ensuring a bright future for his family. Known for his social and lovable personality, Russ was a well-known figure in his community. He founded the Facebook group “Cold War Military Veterans,” which brought together over 17,000 members from around the world.

In retirement, Russ embraced new hobbies and continued to enjoy life surrounded by his family. He was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren and a great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by a sister, two brothers and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Florida. An announcement will be made here and on Facebook.
