Dumas, Helen L., 80 of Sarasota, Florida passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on December 2 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born in Suffern, NY, she was the daughter of the late Alexis Savaria and Clothilde (Charpentier) Savaria. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Dumas who died in 2016. Helen was a graduate of Saint Anthony’s High School and Saint Anne’s School of Nursing. She was a nurse for many years working in several hospitals as well as skilled nursing facilities. She was also the owner and partner with her sister in law, Michelle Dumas at the Basketeers in Cumberland, RI where together they created beautiful arranged gifts for their many clients. Bob and Helen lived in Cumberland, RI and Dartmouth, MA for many years and retired to Sarasota, Florida. While in Florida, Helen had an active life and enjoyed spending time with her treasured friends golfing as a member of Palm Aire Country Club, crafting, and volunteering at her church, Our Lady of Queen of Martyrs. Helen was a giving and generous person and never hesitated to use her nursing skills to help others in time of need. She was also very creative and there was nothing that she couldn’t make. She kept a beautiful home and loved to host her family and friends. She was known as Memere to her cherished grandchildren and took pride in all of their accomplishments.
She is survived by her three sons, Michael and his wife Maureen of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, Andrew and his wife Jennifer of Coopersburg, Pennsylvania, Matthew and his wife, Julie of Pomfret Center, Connecticut. In addition, she leaves her beloved grandchildren: Michael and Brendan, Katherine and Lauren, Mark and Matthew Dumas and step grandchild, Sarah Tuttle. She was the sister of Normand Savaria of Greenville, South Carolina and the late Alice Hughes, of Brockton, Massachusetts.
Relative and friends are kindly invited to attend Helen’s Funeral Mass on Monday, December 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in North Attleboro, 14 Park Street, MA. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Helen’s memory can be made to Mount Saint Charles Academy at 800 Logee Street, Woonsocket, RI 02895 or Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation, 12902 Magnolia Drive, Tampa, FL 33612 where she received exceptional care.
