F.A. "Skip" DeVilling III of Sarasota, FL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. He was born on December 6, 1941 to Dorothy Helen Keirn DeVilling, (Vandergrift, PA) and Frank A. DeVilling (Apollo, PA), long time summer residents of the Chautauqua Institution of Chautauqua, New York.
Skip graduated from Valley Foirge Military Academy & College in 1960, earning varsity letters in Football and Baseball; Florida State University and graduated from The College of Emporia in Emporia, Kansas (1966). Earned 4 Varsity Letters in Football and was named to Kansas Conference Teams 4 years. Played in two NAIA National Championship games 1962-1963. Was selected to the 1965 NAIA All American Team. Played baseball in the summers for the Chautauqua Institution Baseball Team.
Signed contract with the Hamilton Tiger Cats in the CFL 1966 and was named Head oach of the St. Catharines Rams Football Team. Selected 'Coach of the Year' in 1967 Ontario Rugby Football Union.
Joined Bay State Abrasives Canada in 1966 as a sales representative in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada.
Married to his beloved wife and partner - Patricia Susan Tidy of St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada on May 4, 1973.
Skip returned to the states as District Managers in Michigan and Pennsylvania, Regional Sales Manager, Pittsburgh, PA. 1972 before being selected National Sales Manager and relocating to Worcester, Massachusetts 1983. He was selected Vice President of National Twist Drill Division of Regal Beloit Corporation in Columbia, SC in 1986. Joined Columbus McKinnon Corporation as Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Buffalo, New York in 1992 and moved back to Worcester, Massachusetts in 1996 where he was Vice President of Business Development at Simonds Industries.
In 1998 Skip started DeVilling & Associates, LLC, a retained search firm in the industrial marketplace. He moved to Sarasota in 2001. Was a founder of The Arrowhead Group 2019, a manufacturer's rep firm located in Sarasota, Florida.
Skip was an avid golfer and a member of the Board of Directors of Sewickley Heights Country Club - Pittsburgh, Board of Directors, Member Wildwood CC - Columbia, South Carolina. Member of Brookfield Country Club, Buffalo, NY; Board of Directors - 2 Time Senior Club Champion at Worcester County CLub - Worcester, Mass. Member and President of the Misty Creek Country Club, Sarasota, Florida.
Skip was preceded in in death by his Parents, and Sisters, Marilyn Ann DeVilling (1953), Deanna Bushyeager (2009), Tennessee. Survived by brothers, Mark A. DeVilling, Paul O. DeVilling, William Andrew DeVilling and Bruce E. DeVilling and their many wonderful children and their grandchildren.
A Celebration of Skip's Life will be held at a later date.
