Drayton Robertson, 53, went home to be with the Lord on April 19, 2016, in Roswell, GA. The talented businessman and entrepreneur was born on October 16, 1962, in Sarasota, FL, where the Robertson family has resided since 1925. He was the youngest of three sons born to William E. Robertson and Martha “Bitsy” Robertson. Drayton grew up in Cherokee Park in Sarasota, attended Southside Elementary, Brookside Middle and Riverview High School, where he played the trumpet for the Kiltie Band. He attended Florida State University in Tallahassee (the Harvard of the South), where he joined his brothers as a member of the SAE fraternity. Drayton was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt. Drayton subscribed to Albert Einstein’s theory – “play is the highest form of research.” If true, Drayton was a great researcher, describing everything as “epic,” loving life and living it in two speeds – asleep and full throttle. He loved to laugh and made everyone else in his presence laugh as well. His nickname to all was “Captain Fun” and he packed more in his 53 years than most do in a lifetime. He never met a stranger, and he became the unofficial “Mayor of Roswell” where he made his home. He is survived by the love of his life of over 27 years, Tamara Robertson; his sons, Drayton Robertson, Jr. and Alec Robertson; his mother, Martha “Bitsy” Robertson; his brother, John Fite Robertson III, and his wife, Lalanya; his brother William “Bill” Robertson, Jr., and his wife, Linda; five nieces – Erica, Elisha, Jessica, Sarah and Mariah; five nephews – John, Miles, Wesley, Michael and William; four grand nephews – Gage, Larit, Layton and Joey; and three grand nieces – Kyla, PJ and Ava Marie. Uncle Drayton was their favorite uncle. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 13, 2016, at 6 p.m. on the second floor of the Gator Club, 1490 Main Street, Sarasota, to toast Drayton and rejoice his time here. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 104 South Pineapple Avenue, Sarasota, where his grandparents were founding members, where he was christened and where he and his wife married. He will be buried next to his beloved father, William E. Robertson, Sr., at the Sarasota Memorial Park at 5388 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. Immediately following, a gathering of family and friends will join together in fellowship to honor Drayton at the White Sands Cabana Club at 6250 Midnight Pass Road on Siesta Key. A picture is worth a thousand words and the family has created a Facebook page named “The Epic Drayton Robertson Memories,” where those who knew him are invited to post stories and pictures of Drayton. He loved his wife, children, mother, brothers, nephews, nieces and friends with all of his heart. Drayton would say to everyone, “Don’t cry for me. I am dancing on the streets of gold with my daddy and can’t wait to see all of you again. Until then, IT’S ON!” In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that contributions be made to the Drayton Robertson Memorial Fund at https://www.gofundme.com/DraytonRobertson.
