David, the third of 10 children, grew up in Louisiana until the Mississippi River flooded and they lost their farm. The family relocated to Western New York where he attended the local school through eighth grade. He married Katherine Swartz in Alden, NY on December 23, 1939. Ordained at the age of 29, he pastored the Alden Mennonite Church for 24 years. During that time he also managed a contracting business and they raised a family of four children. David later pastored a church in the Cincinnati area before they moved to Sarasota, Florida to care for his parents. He and Katherine traveled back and forth to Alaska often and owned a house in Homer for seven years.
David was an avid fisherman and hunter. They enjoyed traveling and made several international trips. He loved the Lord with all his heart, selflessly ministered to others, and always prayed a blessing over his grandchildren and great grandchildren when they visited.
