1931-2018
Anne Swain, affectionately called Anno her whole life, died after a brief illness at Sarasota Memorial Hospital on May 29, 2018. Born in Bronxville, NY to L. Allen Osborne and Emily Cooke Osborne, she grew up in Litchfield, CT, attended Chatham Hall and Vassar College. Anno came to Sarasota in 1960, and well into middle age finished her degree at the Univ of South Florida, with her adult children cheering her on. Over the course of many years, she was married to William Erhart, Saul Luria, and Adrian Swain.
She is survived by her children Susan Erhart, Katie Hayes (Peter) and David Luria (Sherry) all of Sarasota, Nikki Luria (Brad) of Costa Rica, stepchildren Cyndy Toale, Tom Swain (Ruth), Bill Swain (Laurel), and Ken Swain, all of Sarasota, grandchildren Susannah Kitler (Nate), Kent Hayes (Lauren) and Kelsey Hayes, Luke, Ivy and Tanner Luria, and great grandchildren Chase, Lucy and Finn Hayes. Also her sister Patsy Smith of Pittsburgh, stepbrother Bill Humphrey (Ruth) of New Zealand, many loving cousins, nieces and nephews, and step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents, her daughter Joanna (Joby), and stepson Jeffrey.
In her nearly 60 years in Sarasota, she contributed volunteer time and resources to many causes, including St. Boniface Church, and 25 years of volunteer counseling at Resurrection House . She also spent many happy summers with family and friends in the Beartooth Mountains of Montana. But her calling and her joy was her family. She felt blessed every day to have her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren around her. She was considered a “second mother” to many others. She was loved and admired for her graciousness, generosity, joy of life, and indomitable spirit. We feel lucky to have had her unconditional love and support for so many years.
There will be a memorial service at St. Boniface Episcopal Church, 5615 Midnight Pass Road, Siesta Key at 11 am on Saturday, June 16, 2018, with a reception to follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of Anno’s favorite organizations; St. Boniface Episcopal Church, SPARCC, or Planned Parenthood.
