Anita Israel

Anita was born Hana Gitl Kawa in Korev, Poland in 1929 to Pinkus Duvid and Rucheliah Kawa. She grew up in Baranquilla, Colombia where she went to a an American missionary school and would go on to marry her husband Natan and birth their three children, Martin, Maxie and Frida. In 1958 the Israels emigrated to Brooklyn where they raised their children and then spent their later years in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida.

Anita wasn’t afraid to talk to anyone and considered nobody a stranger. She had the kind of spunk and sense of humor that disarmed everyone around her and a laugh that could light up the room. Despite her tiny stature, she would challenge large men to arm wrestling competitions. She loved singing Spanish songs while she did the dishes, and enjoyed swimming. She devoured dark chocolate and shellfish.

Anita is predeceased by her husband Natan and son Maxie. She is lovingly remembered by her son Marty, daughter Frida, grandchildren Rick, Bridget, Melissa and Dakota, as well as her great grandson Angelo and great granddaughter Isabella. We’re all filled with joy when we remember all of the witty, and sometimes outrageous, things she said and the laughter and happiness she brought us.
