Leonard Felix Stempien

Leonard Felix Stempien passed away peacefully at 84 years old on the morning of October 5th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Known as “Len” and “Lenny” to his loved ones, he was an adoring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend that will be missed more than words can express.

Len was born on October 20th, 1939, in Niagara Falls, New York. He was the youngest of four boys born to Felix Stempien and Rose Pinkowski Stempien. He met his wife, Eugenia, at sixteen years old and married her in May of 1960. In 1976, he, his wife, and his children relocated to Satsuma, Alabama, where he remained for the rest of his life. He worked diligently as a safety manager until his retirement, after which he devoted himself to being a full-time family man. For all of his life, Len was a devout Catholic, and belonged to the local congregations of Saint Thomas and Saint Bridget Catholic Church.

Over the years, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, traveling, rooting for his favorite sports teams, taking trips to the boats, drinking plenty of coffee in his favorite black mug, grilling on Sundays, and being a rock for his loved ones. He was known for playing a fun tune on any available piano and his delicious Christmas pierogies, as well as the many jokes and laughs he shared. Len’s defining features are the enduring love and unwavering dedication he showed to those around him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Rose; two of his older brothers, Edward and Thaddeus Stempien; and his grandson, Chad Stempien. He is survived by his wife, Eugenia “Jean” Stempien; his brother, Chester Stempien; his children, David (Mona) Stempien, Laurie Lambert, and Michael Stempien; his grandchildren, Brett (Kati) Collier, Ashley Stempien, Kelsey (Jeremy) Gill, Collin Stempien, and Anna Grace Lambert; and his great-grandchildren, Bella Johnson, Caleb Brinkman, Landon Gill, Elizabeth Collier, Bennett Gill, and Gabriel Collier.

His legacy of love and devotion forever lives on in his family. We all can’t wait to see him again.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Satsuma Cemetery.
