John Lamar Wright, a resident of Orange Beach, AL, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2021, with his daughters by his side. Lamar is preceded in death by his daughter, Jessica Dianne Wright; his parents, John Velpoe Wright and Grace Wright Spencer (Orville); and sister, Gloria Wright Weldon. He is survived by his daughters, Melanie Wright Williams (Shane) and Catherine McKenzie Wright; granddaughters, Kinsley Brooke Williams and Avery Grace Williams; sister, Shirley Wright Smith (T.K.); and brother-in-law, Ricky Weldon; Orville’s children, Vicki Tindle, Valerie Usher, and Robert Spencer; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Lamar retired to Orange Beach, AL after 32 years as an agent with Alfa Insurance. He enjoyed going to the beach, fishing, boat riding, and golfing during the spring and summer and spending time with family, hunting, and watching Alabama football at his other home in Pine Apple, AL during the fall and winter. He was a provider and family man not only to his immediate family, but also to extended family and friends. Some called him John Lamar while others called him Uncle Lamar. He was proud of his family and proud of his last name. He was proud of who he was and the life he made.
This is not goodbye, but until we meet again. But until then, “I love you to the beach and back!”
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Friday, June 18, 2021, at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, June 17, from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
