12, 2015, with her children at her side.
Loretta was born February 9, 1920 in Keota, Oklahoma. She and her identical twin sister,
Juanita, were the ri" and iz" children born to Joseph and Bertha Coppenger.
Early in life Loretta found her servants heart, as she worked to help out the family and later
caring for her ailing parents. Hard work came naturally to her and she found joy and
contentment in being productive and busy.
After graduating high school, she and longtime friend, Chester Poynter, decided to get married
and move to California for a better life. World War II soon took Chet overseas and Loretta
moved back to Oklahoma and worked in an ammunitions depot, to do her part for the war.
When Chet returned, they put their belongings in his car and made California their forever
home.
Loretta worked at the Rexall Drug store on Main Street and held such fond memories of all the
people that she came to know and love. They worked hard for 10 years to make a good home
before bringing Charles and Sue into the world.
When she became a mother, that was her profession, remaining a homemaker for the rest of
her life. She excelled at this in every way. She loved her home and took great pride in caring
for it and her family. She enjoyed the simple things in life, traveling, a cup of tea with a friend,
bowling, volunteering at the hospital, family camping trips and most of all, time spent with
children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She loved and was deeply loved by all of her family and friends. She leaves behind her son,
Charles Poynter, her daughter Sue and favorite son-in-law, Ian McCalister, grandchildren, Julie
and Greg Bergman, Brian McCalister and fiance, Laurie, Ryan and Tracy Poynter, Nikki and Sean
Moore and great-grandchildren, Reece McCalister, Tristan and Carly Poynter, Kade and Keira
Bergman and her special pal, Ray McCalister Jr., as well as nieces, Pat Green, Rochella Handrock
and nephews Lloyd and Howard Coppenger. She was the last member of her family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to your favorite charity or do a
good deed for someone in need ... this was her spirit.
Visitation will be Monday, September 21st at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary from 4:00 -8:00 pm.
