Born in Ford City PA to Steve and Bessie Lettrich.
A sports lover, she lettered in Volleyball at Ford City High School. She met the love of her life, Paul as a sophomore and they married after she graduated. She made a home for the family in Maryland, Colorado, West Virginia and California where she raised their three children and supported Paul’s career. When the children were grown she attended San Jose State University and Ohlone College to earn her certification in tax preparation.
She worked side by side with Paul to build their tax business, first in the front office and later as a tax preparer. For many years she produced a seminar that drew nationally recognized speakers and more than 175 tax preparers from around the region. When she retired she had in excess of 300 clients.
In retirement she enjoyed her family and volunteering for Hope Lutheran Church and the Santa Clara Women’s League. She also enjoyed entertaining guests, quilting, crafts of all kinds, baking, and traveling. Shirley was an avid reader, especially enjoying historical fiction.
Survived by husband of 70 years Paul Shumaker, Daughter Valerie (Tim) Jaggers, Son Eric (Janel) Shumaker, Daughter Karyn (Richard) Wright.
Grandchildren-Kathryn (Ryan) Vera, Morgan (Josh) Campbell, Melissa (Blake) Semas, Sam (Stacey) Wright, Mackenzie Wright, Emily (Zach) Wright.
Great Grandchildren-Logan Vera and Reagan and Aubrey Semas.
She had a wonderful loving spirit with a tremendous sense of humor and a generous heart, she will be missed by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will begin at 11:00 AM on Sunday March 5th at Hope Lutheran Church, 2383 Pacific Drive, Santa Clara, CA 95051. A Zoom link may be obtained by phoning the church at 408-248-3668. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Shirley’s memory may be given to Hope Lutheran Church.
