Ronald Joseph Moore, Sr., age 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara. He was born July 15, 1930, in Pawtucket, RI, to John & Annabelle (Eastwood) Moore.
He was a 1948 graduate of East High School, before continuing his education at Rhode Island School of Design. He married the love of his life, Ruth (Deshaies) on April 7, 1951, in Daly City; they shared a love of playful banter, often found slow dancing in the kitchen throughout their 67 years of marriage. He worked for Stanford Research Institute where he is credited for starting and growing the art department over the course of 37 years, recently inducted into the SRI Hall of Fame for his contributions and forward thinking as an illustrator and graphic designer.
Throughout his life, Ron was an accomplished artist and cartoonist, penning the comic Lobot, while presiding over the “Northern California Cartoon and Humor Association” with members including Bill Keane and Charles Schultz. He loved traveling with his beloved wife Ruth, annually attending their high school reunion.
Ron lived a life of integrity, passion, and dedication, devoted to his faith and family. Ron is preceded in death by his son Ronald J. Moore, Jr. and survived by his wife Ruth, daughters Kathleen (and Thomas) Deaton, Regina (and David) Dittmann, Karen (and Christopher) Poulsen, 8 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren; whom he spoke of fondly with pride and adoration.
Family, friends, and others touched by Ron’s life are invited to the Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 North Winchester Blvd, Santa Clara, from 5-9pm for visitation and Rosary service at 7pm, January 23, 2019, and Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph of Cupertino Parish, 10110 N. De Anza Blvd., Cupertino, at 11am, January 24, 2019. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
