Nancy Kay Verbanec (née Wilhelm), 85, passed away after a brief illness on December 29th, 2023, in Santa Clara, California. She was born on December 4th, 1938 at St. Margaret's Hospital in Hammond, Indiana. After graduating from Thornton Fractional High School in Calumet City, Illinois, Nancy dedicated her life to nursing at a young age, graduating from St. Margaret's Nursing School in 1959. In 1961, she made a leap of faith and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. There, she enjoyed a long and successful career with multiple organizations including Santa Clara University, the Palo Alto Veterans' Administration Hospital, Santa Clara County Hospital and Hewlett-Packard Corporation.
Nancy is survived by her son, Warren Verbanec, of Santa Clara, California, and her many loving relatives across the country. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, William Verbanec, her parents Irene and Carl Wilhelm, and her brother, David Wilhelm.
Nancy loved the outdoors, and enjoyed activities such as bird watching and hiking throughout her life. She also relished chatting with family and her many friends from her school days, her work at HP, and her cherished genealogical studies.
Nancy's family invites friends, coworkers, and relatives to attend the visitation, which will be held at Lima Family Mortuary in Santa Clara on Thursday, January 18th from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. A rosary will be said at 7:00 PM during the visitation. A funeral service will be held the following day on Friday, January 19th, at 10:30 AM at Queen of Apostles Church in San Jose, where Nancy attended Mass for decades and found great comfort in her Catholic faith.
