Descanse em paz
Maria Lima Silveira
April 23, 2023
Maria passed peacefully in her sleep Sunday morning in San Mateo, California at 95 years old.
Maria was born on August 8, 1927 in the village of Vila Nova, on the Portuguese island of Terceira in the Azores. She was the second oldest of 10 children. Maria always had a smile, an infectious laugh, and a wonderful sense of humor. She loved to visit with her many nieces and nephews, and never met a baby she didn’t immediately love.
Maria immigrated to the United States in 1962, and later sponsored many of her siblings to immigrate from their village of Vila Nova. Maria could be considered the matriarch of the family on the US side, always visiting family members and making sure they were all doing well.
Maria, her daughter Helena, and her sister Odete were the three musketeers for many years. Where you found one, the other two were usually close behind. She always found time to visit family and spend time talking, eating, and laughing. Many holidays and special events were celebrated together between all of their homes.
Maria is survived by her daughter Helena Hornor, siblings Pilar Lima, Olympia Tristao, Odete Freitas, Angelina Damiao, Luis Rocha, and Teotonio Rocha, as well as countless nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her dear husband Jack Silveria, siblings Paulina Bento, Diolinda Rocha, Raimundo Rocha, niece Ana Paula Reis, son-in-law Richard Hornor, and her parents, Maria do Pilar and Raimundo Caetano da Rocha.
The family wishes to thank Idalina Janeiro, for caring so much for Maria and being there for her in life and after her passing, we appreciate your love and attention. Also, many thanks to the staff of Atria San Mateo, who took impeccable care of her during her 14 years as a resident there.
Maria is now at rest, and celebrating with her loved ones in Heaven.
A visitation for Maria will be held Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 North Winchester Blvd, Santa Clara, CA 95050. Following the visitation will be a committal service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, 490 Lincoln St, Santa Clara, CA 95050.
