Gil, a life-long resident of the City of Santa Clara, was a member of the first graduating class at St Clare’s Elementary School and a graduate of Bellarmine Prepatory College. He was stationed in India while serving in the Armed Services and was so touched by the country that he contributed to the building of two schools in the country. Gilbert owned Pereira’s Men Store in the old downtown Santa Clara, where his mother owned May’s Dress Shop and his father owned George’s Bicycles. When downtown Santa Clara’s business district closed, he became a financial consultant. Gil now joins his loving wife, Elizabeth Ann and son, John in heaven. He is survived by his children: Jeff, Steve, David, Tom and Mary; his grandchildren James, Michael, Mark, Karen, Sofia, Charlotte, Daniel, Andrew, Tommy, Matthew, Emily, Elizabeth and Christine, as well as his great grandchildren Taylor, Michael Junior, Dylan, Julia, Anna and Abner. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Gilbert Pereira’s life on Wednesday, May 21st at 11AM at St. Clare Parish, 941 Lexington St., Santa Clara. Burial to follow at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery.
