Anthony Morici, known to many as Tony, passed away at home on February 25th surrounded by his family. He was born in San Jose, CA in 1942 to Rosalie Terese Morici and Anthony Charles Morici.
Tony was a life-long resident of San Jose, and attended St. Leo The Great School, Bellarmine College Preparatory, and Santa Clara University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Commerce. He often expressed gratitude for his Jesuit education and referred to his years at Bellarmine as the foundation for the rest of his life.
At Bellarmine, Tony played basketball and was starting quarterback for two historic seasons. This cemented his passion for sports both as a competitor and as a fan. He was an ongoing member of the Silicon Valley Sports Hall of Fame and instrumental in bringing the first U.S. and World Figure Skating Championships to San Jose.
Tony also attended the Loyola of Chicago Rome Center. This experience further strengthened his love of Italy and the Italian culture, which he passed on to his extended family and friends with his legendary Sunday dinners. This study abroad adventure also enhanced his love for travel. He and his wife Rebecca visited over 60 countries, learning about their cultures and history.
Tony had a passion for the outdoors, and a lifelong love of Sun Valley, ID. He shared this love with his children and grandchildren, spending many winters skiing and summers fly-fishing and exploring Idaho’s Wood River Valley.
His career as a real estate developer, supported by his administrator Marcy and his extended team of business partners, has left a legacy on San Jose and the surrounding Bay Area.
He was known by many extended family members as Uncle Tony, a testament to his fatherly care and demeanor. A man of character, wisdom, humility, and grace, with a profound sense of duty, Tony Morici will be greatly missed. He will live on in our hearts and actions as we emulate his approach to life and the love and care he showed friends and family.
Tony is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rebecca, his sister Marianne, and three children: Shannon (Stephen), Antonio (Caroline) and Alexia (Jamie). In addition, he is survived by six grandchildren: Gabriella, Alexander, Sebastian, Nicolo, Charlie and Molly. He is preceded in death by his sister Carol and his son David.
In remembrance of Tony Morici, donations may be made in his name to the Bellarmine College Preparatory Fund through www.bcp.org/give or to the Santa Clara University Global Engagement and Study Abroad Fund through www.scu.edu/giving.
Memorial services will be held on April 1st at 11:00 a.m., at Mission Santa Clara de Asis (500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, CA 95053).
