Patricia (Pat) was born on June 3, 1933 to Kenneth and Martha Pomeroy in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Patricia earned a B.A. and M.A. in English Literature and a M.A. in Education from Chapman University, Orange, California. Her Ph.D. was earned at Claremont University, Claremont, California. She taught at Chapman University for twenty-seven years and was Chair of the Communications Studies Department for six years prior to her retirement in 2004.
Not one to rest on her laurels, she joined both the Yorba Linda and Anaheim Senior Centers where she played duplicate bridge several times a week. It was there that she became good friends with other members of the centers. Although she enjoyed the competitive nature of the game it was the comradery with other players that meant the most to her. During the pandemic she began playing bridge on-line with her bridge partners and through the on-line app, bridgebase, she played with people from around the world, which she found most delightful.
A deeply spiritual person, she enjoyed attending St. Martin De Porres Catholic church in Yorba Linda. While attending, she connected with St. Martin’s Small Christian Community group for weekly bible study. She loved reading and discussing scripture with the group and enjoyed their lively discussions and fellowship.
Her daily companions were her two beloved dogs. Annie, a West Highland white terrier, and Jamie, a Bichon poodle mix she rescued from the shelter. Over her lifetime she loved and cared for nine dogs, four cats, and five horses. All these angels in fur brought her much joy and laughter.
Above all else was her love of family. Married on February 16, 1952, to her first husband Philip Snyder Schultz, she had three children: Philip Snyder, Jr., John Karl, and Laura Elizabeth. All were born in Glen Cove, New York. Her second marriage to Richard Doetkott took place on February 27, 1977. Prior to this marriage she converted to Catholicism, and they were married in the Catholic church. Pat gained a much-loved step-daughter, Wendy Lynn, from this union. Pat had four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren at the time of her passing.
Pat was preceded in death by her father and mother, Kenneth Brownridge Pomeroy and Martha Lydia Pomeroy, her brother John William Pomeroy, and her husband Richard Paul Doetkott. She is survived by her sister Sylvia Sue Thorpe; sister-in-law Carole Pomeroy; children Philip Snyder, John Karl, Laura Elizabeth, Wendy Lynn; sons-in-law Casey Broussard, Dylan Rogan; daughter-in-law Deborah Schultz; grandchildren, Jaqulynn Nichole Ardigo, Devon James Rogan, Nicholas Christian Broussard, Grace Joanna Pinkerton; great grandchildren, David Reynolds, Aubrey Loranc, Theodore Pinkerton, Piper Pinkerton, Jocelyn Pinkerton, Simone Broussard and Leio Sol Ardigo.
