Herculano “Herky” Palacios a great man, entered heaven on May 6, 2020. He was 94 years old. Herculano was born January 7, 1926, to Antero Palacios and Leonor Godinez Palacios in East Los Angeles California. He moved with his parents and sisters to Santa Ana, California where he attended Roosevelt Elementary, Willard Junior High and finally graduated from Santa Ana High School. After graduation, Herky was drafted and served in the United States Army. He entered the reserves after the war. He also served in the Korean War. His service ended with a compassionate discharge after his wife was hospitalized. He met Maria “Mary” Espinoza, the love of his life his life at the Martinez Ball Room better known as "The Seventeenth". The two were married on September 25, 1949 and they never stopped dancing. The newlyweds lived in Santa Ana where they gave birth to their daughters Jacqueline Palacios, Wanda Shutt and son, Roman Palacios. They were married 52 years. After the death of his wife, Herky kept himself busy and joined the American Legion Newport Harbor Post 291, The Fraternal order of Elks Lodge Newport Beach, and the Orange County Widow and Widowers club.
Herky was preceded in death by the love of his life Mary Palacios, his brother Antero Palacios, and sisters, Santos Gutierrez and Consuelo Guadan. He is survived by his daughters Jacqueline Palacios, Wanda Shutt and son Roman Palacios and daughter-in-law Diana Palacios. His grandchildren John Rodriguez, granddaughter-in-law Christy Rodriguez, Clarissa Rodriguez and her Fiancé Vincent Mendez, Rianne Rodriguez and her partner Rene Martinez and Victoria and Nadia Palacios, great grandchildren Demetrius Winter, Phoenix and Soleil Rodriguez and Rylan Martinez.
