She was born in London, England on April 12, 1927 to the late William & Emma (Fitzgibbon) Hollingsworth.
“Rene” was a Brit through and through, from her cheeky, sparkling personality to her strong English black tea. She grew up during World War II, giving her a palpable sense that life is to be lived heartily, as we never know how many days we are given. She grabbed onto life with all her might, confidently succeeding most of the time! Irene was a runner, and she was fast. She loved tap dancing and moved beautifully in ballet … she swam, she camped, and she mastered the English-style Pittman short-hand that became so valuable in her era.
Irene met her dear late husband, Edward Kanasky, at a mutual friend’s wedding when he was in the U.S. Army. She, of course, made her own wedding gown (and, went on to make her future children’s clothing and elaborate creative Halloween costumes for them all)! She came over to the States on a ship with other Army brides, and found her niche in Real Estate.
She built a business, a family she adored, and a legacy that will continue to bring her sparkle to our hearts forevermore.
She is preceded in death by her dear parents; her beloved husband, Edward Kanasky; and, she was also the widow of Ivan L. Miller.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Patricia Keris (widow of John) and son, William Kanasky (Renee); and grandchildren, William Kanasky Jr., Holly Keris, Nicole Evans, Lizzie and Emily Kanasky.
Please join us for a Celebration of Her Life on Saturday, February 1st at 12:00pm at Baldwin-Fairchild Oaklawn, 5000 County Road 46A, Sanford, Florida 32771.
