Gary Don Loftis

Gary D. Loftis, 78, of Lake Mary, Florida, passed away February 10, 2023. He was born in Dallas, Texas on December 26. 1944. Gary graduated from South Oak Cliff High School and received a major in Music Education and a minor in Italian from Southern Methodist University. He had a master’s degree from Northern Michigan University.

He was married to Sharon L. Loftis (nee Grogan) for 53 years. After a long career in the Air Force where he had a variety of positions and responsibilities including being a navigator on B52s and working on the Air University Review, he retired and worked for many years as a technical writer.

He was a member of MENSA. He was the weekend weatherman at a local station in Shreveport, LA. He sang with the Orlando Opera Company and was part of the company when they did a tour of France. He was also involved in several other performance groups including the Montgomery Little Theatre and was part of the cast of several productions at the Candlelight Dinner Theatre in Montgomery, AL. He wrote several editorials for the Orlando Sentinel. He was also part of Leadership Seminole.

He was a strong Christian. He was an active member of many churches and sang in the church choir. In later years he participated in the Bible Study at Westminster Winter Park.

He was preceded in death by his mother June Alice Loftis and his father Earl Loftis, along with his brother-in-law John Murray.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Loftis and 2 daughters: Heather McInnish (Chris) of Wellesley, MA, and Shannon Wall of Lake Mary, FL. He has 5 grandchildren: Brody Wall, Kelly Wall, Caroline McInnish, Caitlin McInnish, and Collin McInnish (Kaitlyn). He is also survived by one great-grandson Carter McInnish. He is survived by his mother-in-law Mary Lee Partlow of Merritt Island, FL and his sister Phyllis Murray of Las Vegas, NV.

He will be interred at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Cape Canaveral, FL. Services will be held at a later date.
