Dennis J. Johnson, 65, a resident of Celery Oaks Lane, Sanford, FL, died Friday, June 7, 2024, in Daytona Beach, FL, surrounded by family, following a courageous battle with Lung Cancer. He was born in Sanford, Florida, on July 25, 1958. He was the son of Sharon Lee Miller and the late Denver Johnson, Jr. He was born and raised in Sanford, Florida, and attended Seminole High School. He joined the Army in December 1975 and served his country for five years. He married Kimberly Tovani on December 2, 2000. Dennis enjoyed his many careers as a roofer, tow truck driver, and commercial truck driver. After being diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in January 2023, he retired and enjoyed time with his loving wife. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing softball, and playing with his grandchildren. Dennis was a loving husband of Kimberly Johnson, father to Ashley Penkala and Nicole Lawler, and grandfather to Taylor Penkala, Anastasia Rarick, Makenzie Penkala, Nolan Lawler, Brayden Penkala, Kolby Lawler, and Scarlett Lawler. He will be remembered for his compassion and loving nature and leaves behind an extraordinary legacy with the many lives he touched.
Survivors include his wife, Kimberly Tovani Johnson, and daughters Ashley Penkala and Nicole Lawler, and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Sharon Lee Miller; brother, Denver Johnson, III; sisters, Asalee Larson, Brenda Tidwell, and Lory Johnson.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Barn in Sanford, Florida, on July 25th, 2024. Details surrounding this event will be released at a later time.
