Carol Crosby Brown, (89) died December 20, 2015 of complications from a stroke. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Jess Herbert Brown, and her parents, William H. and Vivienne Cook Crosby. She is survived by her children: Sharon (Dennis) Butler, Donnie Brown and Kathleen Brown; grandchildren: Kent (Marley) Butler, Gwen (Ryan) Young and 8 great-grandchildren. Carol was born in Kingston, PA and her family moved to Knoxville in her teens. She graduated from the University of Tennessee where she met and married her husband, Herbie. Carol taught in the Knoxville City School System for 29 years before retiring and moving to Florida to be near her grandchildren. She was a member of Murphy Builders Sunday school class at Church Street United Methodist Church in Knoxville, TN. She and Jess were long-standing committee members for Sterchi Lodge at the church. After moving to Florida, she joined 1st United Methodist Church of Sanford, FL where she was active in mission work. She was active in the Sanford Seminole Art Association where she displayed her photography. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to Missions fund at 1st Methodist Church of Sanford or Sterchi Lodge fund at Church Street United Methodist Church in Knoxville, TN. Memorial Services will be scheduled after the holidays.
