Theresa Gabriele Adair, age 98, known as “Meema”, passed away in Cumming, GA on September 9, 2010 at Cumming Nursing Center surrounded by her family. Mrs. Adair was born March 3, 1912 in New York City to Italian parents George and Mae Gabriele. She was raised in Bronx, NY. She attended Catholic parochial schools for 12 yrs and later she studied art at Pratt Art Institute in Brooklyn, NY. She was married to George D. Adair in 1934 in Chicago, IL. They moved to Memphis, TN where they raised their son, Tom Adair, Sr. After the death of her husband in 1963, she worked for the US Dept of Defense until she retired in 1977. She moved to Atlanta in 1979 to be closer to her son and grandchildren. She was a faithful member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Sandy Springs and finally a member of St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Cumming, GA. She was known for her strong faith in God, love of her family and country. She was an unselfish, charitable, and generous person. She is preceded in death by her parents Mae and George Gabriele; her husband, George D. Adair, Sr.; her younger sister, Louise Kugler; her great-grandson, Boden Adair and her step son, George Adair, Jr. She is survived by her son, Tom Adair, Sr. (Jean) and her 4 grandchildren: Shannon Adair Lowery (Chris), Melissa Adair Adams, Tom Adair, Jr. (Karen) and Justin Adair (Patty). Additionally, she is survived by 9 of her 10 great grandchildren: Seth Lowery, Colum Lowery, Brigid Lowery, Jesse Adams, Katherine Adair, Tommy Adair, III, Aidan Adair, Calston Adair, and Declan Adair and her niece, GeorgiaMae Kugler Cappalli. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by The Rev. John Howren. Services will be held at St. Brendan Catholic Church in Cumming, GA on September 13, 2010 at 11a.m. Visitation will be before the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will be immediately after the Mass at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, GA.
