Adored mother and grandmother, Sophia Rosanne Burell of Marietta Georgia passed away peacefully in her sleep at 95 years old on June 5th, 2021. Born of Polish immigrant parents, Sophia was born in Slovan, PA on April 16th, 1926. She was the daughter of Paul Pakisz and Rose Pakisz (Wysocka). She was the beloved mother of three children: Robert Lee, Patricia Leigh (both of Atlanta, GA) and Brenda Marshall of Richboro, PA. Sophia was the proud grandmother of Alexander Cullen Marshall of Richboro, PA. She is survived by daughter- in -law Colleen Rose Burell (Sterns) originally from Eagan, Minnesota and by her son-in-law Samuel Marshall of Richboro, PA.
Sophia was preceded in death by her beloved husband Cullie Wilson Burell of Elberton, Georgia and her two brothers Pecky and Paul of Slovan, PA. Sophia prided herself on being a “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” being raised in the coal mining district of western Pennsylvania. She graduated from Burgettstown High School in Pennsylvania and worked as a welder assisting the WWII war effort. After the war, she was one of the early hires for Stouffers Restaurants and worked her way up to “Directress of Service, Stouffers—Pittsburgh, PA.”
A lover of all animals, Sophia was known to rescue stray dogs and cats and give them good homes. A devout Catholic, Sophia was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Marietta and participated in many of the church activities.
Friends and family are cordially invited to a visitation with the family Wednesday, June 9th, 10:00 AM-11:00 AM at HM Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road NE, Sandy Springs, GA. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Cullie immediately following at Arlington Memorial Park (Calvary section), 201 Mt. Vernon HWY NW, Sandy Springs, GA.
