Sara Burwell Moore was born July 27, 1919 in Huntsville, Alabama and passed away January 9, 2013 in Atlanta, Georgia. Sara is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Lallah Burwell; brother, Edwin Burwell, Jr.; husband, Dr. Arthur K. Moore. She is survived by her four daughters: Lalla Zima, Claire Blancher, Rebecca Copeland and Adalene (Nene) Wood; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Sara graduated from Huntsville High School, Montevallo College and the University of Alabama. She received her Master’s degree in nutrition from the University of Kentucky and pursued a career in community nutrition. In 1969 Sara and Arthur left Lexington, Kentucky where they had reared their family and moved to Atlanta where Dr. Moore was honored with the Calloway Professorship of English at Georgia State University. Sara soon became active in the Atlanta community. As a member of Peachtree Presbyterian, she was a choir and flower guild member and circle leader. Sara traveled the globe with groups such as the Friendship Force. An enthusiastic student of NASS and Lifespan classes, she developed her skills as an artist and writer. She was a long time water aerobic enthusiast (Ponce de Leon Baptist Church) and an avid gardener. She often shared holly wreaths and flowers arrangements with her friends, family, neighbors, and church. Sara lived and loved fully. She is deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be Saturday, January 12 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at H. M. Patterson & Sons, 173 Allen Drive, NE, Sandy Springs. Services will be held at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, Kellett Chapel, on Sunday, January 13 at 3:00 pm.
