In the early hours of October 6th, Sara D. Minchew passed away peacefully in the presence of her daughter Becky and girlfriend Laurina. Born in Waycross, GA, on February 4th, 1934, she was the youngest child of the late Claire and Charles Duke Sr. Sara was predeceased by her sister Mattie Lee Matt, brother Charles Duke Jr., and beloved husband John Minchew.
She is survived by her daughters, Gail Minchew (Greg Long) and Becky Minchew (Laurina Fiorio), along with many nieces, nephews, friends, and her cherished kitties, Buddy and Smokie.
After their wedding in 1956, Sara and John began their life together in Athens, GA, while John attended veterinary school at UGA. They eventually settled in Sandy Springs, where they opened and operated Minchew Animal Hospital for 35 years. The arrival of the infamous Labrador retriever named Honey sparked their competitive spirit as they trained and competed in field trials.
Sara delighted in traveling throughout Europe, North and South America, and Mexico, savoring the rich cuisines, cultures, gardens, and architectural designs of these journeys. Throughout her life, she forged many friendships through the game of bridge, travel, and field trialing.
Known for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and quick wit, Sara will be remembered as a true Southern lady with unyielding love and devotion to her family.
