On Valentine’s Day in 1971, Bob married the love of his life, Judy, and together they built a family and a life filled with love and laughter. Family was Bob’s top priority, and he was a devoted father to his three children, Braden, Tasha, and Preston.
Born on September 29, 1944, Bob lived his childhood years in Wynnewood, PA. He graduated from Lower Merion High School, then went on to earn an associate degree from Temple University and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Growing up, Bob was an avid ham radio operator who was fluent in Morse code, and he traded postcards with people all over the world. Bob was incredibly versatile and intellectually curious. He was active in scouting and earned his Eagle Scout, he spent many hours in pursuit of a pilot’s license, and he played drums in his high school band. Under the guidance of his father, he became a carpenter’s helper. All these skills led to his ultimate superpower: he could fix anything. And he truly enjoyed fixing things (much to the delight and benefit of his family).
Bob’s friends knew him as a supportive, kind, and genuine person who possessed boundless, selfless energy. He was skilled at multitasking. Whatever the situation, if Bob was around, people knew that it would be okay because he had an uncanny ability to figure things out using his excellent engineering and problem-solving skills.
Amusing stories of Bob abound. He was known for building coat racks for the parties that he and Judy would host at their house. Bob was active – always busy in the background, setting the scene for the merriment. When dating Judy, he drove a Rambler that wouldn’t drive in reverse.
Bob worked at the forefront of radio and cellular technology. Early in his career, he supported the Vietnam War effort building the two-way radios used by our military. Later on, he designed the cellular networks that many of us use today when we talk on our phones. He always had the latest phones and gadgets (again, much to the delight and benefit of his family). Bob had successful careers at Motorola, Contel, GTE Wireless, Verizon, and Engineering Associates.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Roger Cox, and his mother, Ethel Cox, of Wynnewood, PA.
Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judith Cox; son, Braden Cox and his wife, Chrissy Cox, of McLean, VA; daughter, Tasha Wisehart and her husband, Marc Wisehart, of Marietta, GA; son, Preston Cox of Marietta, GA; five grandchildren, Carson Wisehart, Emma Wisehart, Robbie Wisehart, Charlie Cox, and Maisie Cox; brother, Rod Cox and his wife, Lucy Cox of Philadelphia; brother-in-law, Ricky Pfleger of Sandy Springs, GA; and sister-in-law, Barbara Pfleger of Marietta, GA.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service followed by a reception at 11:00 am on December 23, 2024, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marietta, GA.
