Paul Donald (Don) Hemrick, age 88, died at home on October 5, 2024. Born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Don attended Old Town High School and later, Guilford College in Greensboro where he met and fell in love with his wife of 65+ years, Barbara Monnett Hemrick, who preceded him in 2023. Don enjoyed and excelled in many sports, achieving honors in baseball and particularly basketball in high school and college. He flourished during a 25-year career with IBM, attaining executive-level responsibilities as a talented communicator with accomplished organization and leadership skills. Early on, he was a salesman in Athens, Georgia where he and Barbara established lifelong friendships and became ardent UGA supporters.
After numerous promotions and moves to locations throughout the United States raising their three boys - Don Jr., Guy and Scott, Don and Barbara settled in Atlanta. Their retirement lives were filled with travel, UGA football games, Cherokee Town & Country Club and time spent with their three children, four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren who affectionately called him “Pops”. At Cherokee Town and Country Club, Don was an active member enjoying socializing, golfing and Gin Rummy with friends. He was also an interested participant and enjoyed working with and spending time with his neighbors in their community.
In addition to his wife Barbara, Don was preceded in death by his mother and father, brothers Bob and Rick, and sister Bonnie. He is survived by his three sons, four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, his sister Phyllis Dunning and sister-in-law, Jean Ross. The Hemrick Family would like to recognize and sincerely thank the staff at Visiting Angels in Atlanta for their compassionate care and support.
Don is missed, but his family and friends take comfort knowing he is back with Barbara once again.
