He was born on February 29, 1956, the fourth son of the late Judith Nichol Nolan and the late Robert Sutton Nolan. Matthew grew up in Sandy Springs, Georgia attending Hammond Elementary School and Sandy Springs High School. He was involved in youth athletic programs while later enjoyed fishing, rafting, skydiving and bowling. He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, Hawks and Falcons.
Matthew was a department manager at Old Sarge in Doraville, Ga. for many years, later working at specialty shoe retailers in metro Atlanta. An animal lover all is life, Matthew shared his homes with many canine companions. His last dog, Benjie, was with him for twelve years.
Matthew was predeceased by his older brother, Mike Nolan, in 2017. He is survived by brothers Steve (Sheree Gormley), Geoff (Claire); niece Streeter Nolan; aunts Margaret Nichol, Viola Nolan; cousins Bruce Nolan, Elizabeth Puckett (Doug), Becky Mixon (Bill), Carey Noyes (Bud); lifelong friends Marygail Pavelko and Reid Bentley.
Matthew's cremains were placed in the columbarium at Holy Innocents' Church in Atlanta.
